I own an iPhone 5 and I am trying to bypass the phones dad/amp . I also own the Monoprice desktop headphone amp that has a USB B input. I have searched extensively on Head-Fi and elsewhere for a solution. Someone here suggested to use the Apple Lightning Camera accessory cable which I bought, but it does not work. The phone says essentially that it does not have enough power to power the device. The device of course has its own AC power supply. In the past, I have used an iPhone 4 with the FIIO L9 cable and that enabled me to bypass the iPhone amp, but not the DAC. I could just buy a portable player e.g. FIIO X5, but I really enjoy using the iTunes Radio on the phone.

I don't know how you would bypass the internal amp but you could use the HRT iStreamer and bypass the internal DAC. You could also stick with the camera adapter out method but you will need a powered USB hub to give the power to other DAC's.
