Hey guys.
I've honestly loved the hell out of my FiiO stuff (barring some oddness with my E17) and will soon be adding an X5 to the lineup. I started to think about the DAP I prefer to listen to the most and honestly my little 6th gen iPod Nano takes the cake. It's small, light, has good sound quality and few negatives. In fact, its primary negatives are on the administrative side: I can't stand iTunes and the headache of converting and arranging a whole second library just to use the iPod.
Most DAPs out there are roughly X5 sized. Apple has been all but alone in the market with a very small DAP of good enough quality to enjoy listening to - excepting the most recent Nano, which is sadly and clearly inferior to 6th Gen and previous Nanos and Classics.
So what is the likelihood of FiiO designing a Nano-sized DAP? What might be the technical limitations preventing its development? Anyone have any particular chips they would like in such a device?
Imagine an 80mm x 40mm x 7mm-ish device, CNC aluminum body, with a single SD slot, with a 3.5mm input jack and 3.5mm headphone jack, micro USB OTG port, color Corning glass screen 2/3 the size of the Gen 7 Nano's and physical buttons in similar style to the X5 in the $150-200 range. A battery of similar size/density to the Nano's would easily give this Mini FiiO a 40+ hour playback time since it would have fewer extraneous features than the Nano. That would be killer... and I'd be first in line to buy!
