I have just been listening to Mitsuko Shirai's interpretation of several composers' lieders: this is simply incredible! So beautiful!!!
(Her husband, Hartmut Höll, plays the piano. They are in perfect harmony.)
And mind you, this 10 cd set is only 25 euros!

What other cd sets (or cds) do you love and suggest buying?

best Lieder disk I own is Fischer-Dieskau/Moore Winterreise

Their Schoene Mullerine and Schwanengesang (sp?) are just as great.

Among contemporaries I like a lot Dieter Henschel which I have heard a couple of times singing Die Schoene Mullerine and a Beethoven/Brahms recital. Great singing actor, with a very very attractive tone.
Unfortunately I do not own any of his lieder recordings but your posting led me to order what looks like a true bargain: a 3CD collection from Harmonia Mundi

available for ~$9 from a couple of amazon sellers! I don't see how one could go wrong at this price, but if you are interested I can report in a couple of weeks after I'll get it...
