Crowd-designed Audio System Released on Indiegogo, Reaches Funding Goal in Six Minutes

Vi DAC: A stereo DAC capable of 32/384 kHz PCM and DSD256.

Roseville, CA - February 4, 2015—LH Labs releases new product, Vi DAC, on Indiegogo and reaches its fully funded goal in less than six minutes.  The new product offering is the largest crowd-designed audio component to date, with feedback from over 12,000 people on the functionality and capabilities it incorporates into its design.  With the addition of Vi DAC, LH Lab’s completes its products roadmap by offering Geek Out for portable use, Geek Pulse for desktop use and Vi DAC for home audio use.

Gavin Fish, LH Lab’s Vice President, stated “Vi DAC allows us the opportunity to recognize and appreciate the people that truly made our dreams of providing affordable high-end audio a reality.  By referencing their feedback, wishlists and input, we’ve been able to create what we see as the future of high-end audio.”  With over $4,700,000 raised from previous crowdfunding campaigns, Vi DAC is set to make even a larger splash within the audio industry.

Vi DAC is markedly different from other similar priced DAC’s in three ways:

  1. Femto Clocking. Vi DAC has built-in dual femto clocks, each accurate up to one millionth of one billionth of a second! One clock is used when it's decoding music at multiples of 44.1 kHz, and the other is used when it's decoding music at multiples of 48 kHz. Pair these amazing clocks with its super-quiet power circuit, Vi DAC's jitter performance is second to none.
  2. A Hybrid solid-state/tube output buffer. A DAC has two main parts. First, the digital stage, and then the analog stage. Vi DAC's digital stage utilizes an advanced, proprietary solid-state design first implemented in our Da Vinci DAC. In the digital stage, precision timing and decoding is the most challenging part. Without precision, details blur and smear. The analog stage is where the magic happens. Vi DAC's solid-state analog stage is both musical and controlled at the same time. We've also designed an optional tube output buffer for those aficionados that love the warm and liquid sound of tubes.
  3. New ESS Sabre 9018AQ2M. New for 2015, ESS has released the 9018AQ2M, which boasts even better harmonic distortion characteristics than its predecessor, as well as a lower noise floor and greater dynamic range.
  4. Fully balanced design. Vi DAC uses a fully balanced architecture throughout its entire circuit, which results in the best noise rejection possible, and is the most natural way to cancel distortion. In addition, it uses a dual mono design, implementing dual ESS Sabre DAC chips, a dual separated power supply and a dual analog output stage.

With the GeekWave completion date still being very uncertain, wouldn't it be better to direct your resources towards fulfilling those product orders before embarking upon this project?

Really?

I'm pleased to hear that.

FTR, I do realise Light Harmonic has a good track record with fullsize DACs (Da Vinci), so I'm confident you'll come up with the goods for the Vi DAC, and I wish you well with the product.
