Hi I'm a newbie to this site. This week I broke my crappy headphones and I want to buy a replacement. I'm currently a student so I want to save money on everything, or else I go bankrupt. My budget limit is less than $100. Any suggestions? Feel free to reply.

Welcome to head-fi, sorry about your wallet...

What kind of music do you listen to? Do you want 'phones for mobile use or home use? In-ears, on-ears or over-ears? Do you want thumping bass, silky mids or detailed highs? What is driving the headphones - iphone, computer audio jack or something else?

Well, I listen to good music (of course...) but more a fan to electronic trance music. So I would like to have good bass.

No doubt, the HD439 and UE4000 are among the best choice out of headphones that I have tested! The HD439 are more comfortable but also sound muddier in comparison to the UE4000.

Would you like good portability? If so, the JVC SA-500 is a good headphone for electronic music. You can order it off Amazon UK. Not as well known as some other headphones because it's not released in the UK or US (you buy from importers). Here's a long discussion thread about them.

Just checked in a local shop. Cant find HD 439 but find £79.9 HD249 (currently studying in UK). Should I buy it?

JVC HA-S500 closed, folding, on-ear headphones.
Uses Carbon Nanotube on the diaphragm.
