Well, today is the 37th anniversary of Led Zeppelin's second album (and my personal favourite).

For those of us who weren't around when this album wasn't released - myself included, feel free to share your love for this amazing record. And for those of you who WERE around, feel free to post your memories (if they still remain

) of the time - this was, after all, the beginning of a new decade and at the apex of the psychedelic era.

This album (along with Zep III and IV) opened me up to some of the greatest heavy rock and blues as a kid, so it certainly holds a special place in my heart. I look forward to hearing about others' appreciation of this rock monolith!

I was just entering high school, bought it in a department store (department stores sold records then and probably sold more than the few dedicated record stores that existed at the time.) I didn't have $3.99 to blow on every record that came out so I had to choose them carefully but Led Zep II was one of my best choices ever, 37 years (and counting) of enjoyment, and just as much now as when I was a teenager. Most critics don't seem to rate II very highly but I personally think that taken as a whole album it was one of their best, if not the best.

My parents didn't care for it though.

37: Yow, scary for an old guy. I remember my first contact with was hearing "whole lotta love" on a pop station--it was actually a big hit. I had to save up to get the $4.99 to buy the vinyl album. I'd agree that this is overall the best Zep album.

Hahahah. Your dad sounds like he's got the same personality as my dad - he takes a lighthearted approach to things he doesn't like...

...of course, he IS the man who got me into Zeppelin. I wonder what HIS dad would've said about them?

Well, much like a couple of other posters on this thread, I just happened to be listening to the album yesterday, and then a local Toronto radio behemoth (Q107) played the first side of the album on Psychedelic Sunday in honour of the "birthday". Besides, I wasn't a Head-Fier 2 years ago and couldn't be bothered to wait 3 more!

Ah I really love that record for its consistency. I mean, come on,it has "Living Loving Maid","Bring It On Home" and "Whole Lotta Love". Thats one hell of a selection there. I was humming "Living Loving Maid" yesterday and I think I'll put it on now...
