Least painful downgrade from AKG K-1000,looking for clarity and details and realness...

Yeah... as K340 is unique also... can't find that sound signature on other cans...

i put in a vote for the k501. if you're up to running a balanced system, the k501 balanced gets you a lot of bang for the buck.

Some stats would be a good downgrade. My Lambda is much more detailed and a bit more clear than my K500. I haven't spent enough time with it to say if it's more real though.

Either save up to get that K1000 back, or I would also look into second-hand stats.

Sometimes with these suggestions I don't know whether to laugh or to cry.
AKG 501? Ety? DT48?? these are totally (almost irresponsibly) daft recommendations.
The only viable option is the top of the range Stax which I always have preferred to the to the K1000 anyway.
I have owned (or still own) the whole lot, so I feel comfortable posting in this vein.

Thank you all for the recommendtions!
so many options!really hard to choose one...i would one day go the electrostat way ,but i guess it'll happen in the future, because they are more complicated and expensive to keep,i need a speical amp for them etc..

Humm buggalugs...thanks for your words, well i guess the K501 or DT48 won't sound as good as K1000, but on the other hand they cost much less, and i have a relativley small budget so i'm looking for something that would sound almost as good as K1000 because i can't afford anything better..

Well K340 is quite cheap for electrostic...
It's hybrid, though...

From there to next good stats phone in price chart, the price differences are too high...
So I can safely say, K340 is the best bang for the buck...

It's as low as $180 on ebay, stock version.

And it DOES NOT NEED special amp.
Just drive it with your Powerhouse Portable Amp, it can do good...
Drive it with your desktop amp (i prefer tube), it can do better...
Some say drive it with your speaker power amp... it will shows the true potential!

Well, if he's going to drive it with his speaker amp then it's not that much different than driving a full electrostat hooked up to a transformer box like the SRD-7SB.

So you own the DT48 & did a comparison with the K1000? I auditioned the K1000 & own the DT48.. There are similarities.. Eric owns the 501, DT48, & K1000 & feels there are similarities. No, Stax isn't the only viable choice..

Well frankly I don't like K501.
I bought a NOS (New Old Stock) one from an abandoned stock for as low as $90

Then I sell to a local for $140.

It's too harsh even after burned-in, and even my tube won't soften it.
My ears are too sensitive of high-freq.

I wonder if DT48 have this same bright sound?

PS: I also got 3 NOS Senn HD414 Anniversary Edition, hand-signed by J. Sennheiser himself

There's definitely a lower treble emphasis on the K501.

That's my favorite bang for buck headphone combo.

Mine Too!

IMO lamda frames have a soundstage more similar to a K1000 than a K501. Maybe that is just me....

How about the Sony PFR-V1?

You'd get a bit of the soundstage, with none of the sound quality!
