Hey!
As a new SR-71 owner, I kept thinking about ways to keep this beauty protected along with my iPod and a few of my accessories (ue-10 etc.). I can report that I have found a case that is nearly equivalent to the Headroom Traveller in both beauty and utility. It's the waterfield iPod gear pouch that goes for $35. I would take pics, but my digicam is out of commission right now. Heres the setup:
Outer zipper - two sections for cables and small accessories. I keep an airplane adaptor in here and the UE-10 cleaner as well as my iPod data cables
Main compartment - three pockets, SR-71 is in leftmost pocket and is a perfect fit, iPod mini in Vaja case is in middle pocket and is a perfect fit, I place my UE10s in an amphipod case and into the rightmost pocket, again a perfect fit. If you don't have small earphones, you can put your AC adaptor here. All these compartments are open in the bottom so you can cable up (recommend the Plastics 1 mini to mini due to quality, size, flexibility) your iPod to your amp if you want to within the case. Only problem is that iPod needs to be put into the Sik or Pocketdock adaptor (not recommended unless you have a mini due to larger verticle size of the pocketdock) and can't be operated from within the case unless you have a remote.
The design of this case is awesome (with everything I've stated it lies perfectly flat at 1.2 inches thick and everything is protected but there is room for more... a lot more if you don't feel like keeping it flat!), and is well worth the $35.
I give it my highest possible recommendation!

Wow... I just realized how much I've spent on headphone audio gear. I consider this an informative thread as well as just plain bragging.
I won't be posting at head-fi again for a while as I will be attending a self-help group on conquering addictions. Along with my therapy on necrophilia, I simply won't have time. Goodbye.
Don't hate me because my portable audio setup is better than yours!

I've had the Waterfield Ipod gear case since it came out. One of my best purchases. Very, well made. Keeps everything neat, safe and all together.

Aside from your over the top UE-10's, I am there with you pound for pound. In fact I am VERY satisfied with my Shure E5c phones (...or so I keep telling myself). And no I won't succumbed to that evil disease known as "upgradeites". In fact I am researching a cure right now, I figure it is my ticket to wealth and fame!

I just got my SR-71 and I'm looking for the perfect bag. I bought the Headroom
Gigabag for my iPod and Total Airhead Amp. However this bag is too small for the iPod and the SR-71. I do like the quality of the Gigabag and was considering the Headroom Traveller but it is very expensive. The Waterfield bag that was discussed in the opening post just isn't quite big enough for the related gear and cables that I usually carry with my rig. This "fatboy" bag looks interesting and well made, but what about internal cable ports? Pockets that fit etc. I'm torn. HELP!

The headroom traveller is no good for small amps, but is a beautiful bag. I tried it with the XP-7 and it didn't work out too well. I love the waterfield case, but I recently got a "better" cable (Ted's earcandy mini) and suddenly it's not as convenient as it was before.
Any other case choices? The maxpedition looks good...

So you don't think that the Traveller and the SR-71 are a good match. What is the problem withthe bag with small amps? Looks like your looking for what I'm looking for. I'll keep you in mind if i find something. If you find something let me know...

Enjoy my setup? Without the perfect bag, I just can't do it MAN!!!
And don't say that again... you may start a revolution at head-fi.

There is a pretty good review with pics here: Candlepower Forum

And here:

Bladeforums

It gives a good idea what can go in it. Personally, I carry:

Main Pocket

Zen 2.0 & Shure E2cs in their case
Paperback Book (Steven Erikson FYI)
Oakley Medium Softcase
2.5"x3" notebook

Other pockets (7 or so of them)
Icom R5 scanner w/3 antennas
Cell phone & hands free earpiece
Leatherman Wave
Bunton Lighter/LED light
Surefire flashlight
Pens/Pencils
Knife
Panasonic 2way
256Mb Thumbdrive
$5 in paper and coinage
Lip Balm
Mini Altoids tin with various pills (headache/stomachache/tums/etc)

There are 3 cellphone/walkietalkie size pockets with either zipper closure, snap closure or velcro closure. The biggest one will fit a Zen NX or walkie talkie or cmoy or sunglass case easily. The other two will fit any cell phone sold within the last few years easily. There are outer pen holders, a key hook, a couple inner sleeve pockets. It also has a non-slip pad on the shoulder strap. It's made for military/security purposes basically, meaning it's made to last. Only bad thing about that is it will take a while to 'wear in' and soften up.

As for wiring routes, the bag has a tent pull-string opening under a full flap. My wires come out of that, along shoulder strap which comes with a few velcro horizantal straps (for securing gear with belt loops like 2 ways and such) that you can tuck the wires under to your ear. When I remove the bag, I just pull my E2c's out and everything is attached to the bag.

It sits comfortable for walking. It has a snap secured belt loop on the back for attaching it to your belt if you don't want it to slide forward when riding a bike/motorcycle. Closed it is completely rain tight.

Hope that helps. Geez, I should get a kickback from Maxpedition...

i just carry a maxed-out meta42, r50, straightwire, and er4p/s. utdeep's is certainly better, but $1200 better?

of course it's not better. it's different. but it comes with $1200 more guilt, and it was a great weight loss plan for my wallet.
You should try it.
