My Pico w/DAC will arrive tomorrow morning.

I was just curious to know, would the sound quality be higher-fidelity coming out of my Cowon D2 using FLAC, or out of my thinkpad X200 using the USB DAC of the Pico for the laptop, also using FLAC ?

Is the difference here the quality of the DAC in the Pico vs the DAC in the D2? or does the USB connection vs the mini-mini also factor?

I would expect the X200 and Pico to have higher sound quality than the Cowon D2.

Agree. Cowon D2 has WM8985 in DAC section. This chip is an integration of a 16bit DAC and a headphone amp, more of an one-chip solution for portable usage. On the other hand, Pico uses Wolfson flagship 24bit/192k DAC chip WM8740 and utilizes the supposedly jitter free upsampling design. There's lot more to be desired from Pico's DAC section.
