my dell inspiron 9300 makes a squeaking noise whenever i turn it on. hasn't affected performance (i don't think) but it is very annoying.

i've talked with a dell support person and they've told me to run some tests, but i was wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience before.

Sounds like a bad fan or possibly hard drive noise. Can you tell where it's coming from?

Most probably a hard drive spinning up.

hmm yeah...

dell told me to remove the hard drive then optical drive and run some tests.

just wanted to get more opinions before i went through with it.

it seems to be coming from the top left corner of the base, not sure what is around there
