I've been using a the HeadRoom Total Bithead with my laptop and HD650s for the last few years and am now looking to upgrade the DAC/AMP. Despite owning a great set of cans and a decent 5.1 home theatre system, I'm still pretty much a novice audiophile and am not sure what I should be looking for as a potential upgrade. I was hoping to get answers to my questions and some product recommendations.
1. USB DAC/Amp - I'm aiming for a budget of approx. $200-300.
2. Would a USB DAC/Amp be enough to power a 2.0/2.1 system?
3. What would be a recommended 2.0/2.1 setup with a laptop? Again, budget of $200-300, but I may consider spending up to $400 if it would result in a considerable increase in sound quality. My brief searching in the forum resulted in the following recommendations in the $200 range: AudioEngine A2, Edifier S330D, M Audio AV40.
I recently moved to Toronto (Canada) and would prefer to test out any speakers if possible. I might also consider driving down to Buffalo if recommended products are not available in Canada.
