LAMPIZATOR THREAD COMMENTS REVIEWS TUNING

I heard an opinion that someone prefers Lampizator Poseidon Dac to things like Dave - is this true?
for me this thing is a bit expensive to be honest..
is there a chance of that are those here who have listened to both, and perhaps compared them..
You're talking about two radically different dacs with very different presentations.

What are your preferences for sound?

I owned a Dave while I was looking for a good price on a used Lampizator (wanted a GG2 at the time), ended up with the Pacific, and sold the Dave.
I did have both here at the same time for a couple of months or so.
Honestly it wasn't a hard decision to sell the Dave, to me the Pacific was a very clear step up in almost every regard.
But as always there is a lot relating to preference, and the system it's in.
I put my 2c in a "review" here https://www.sonusapparatus.com/2022/07/lampizator-pacific-dac/
That predates the Engine 11 upgrade (which to me was another albeit small step up) and my current system is different than it was when I wrote that, but it pretty much still holds.

Also while I liked the Dave, and it's competitive in it's price bracket I don't think the Dave is particularly outstanding in it, there are just too many good options.
Depending on preference I think there are at least 3 or 4 other options at a similar price point that someone might prefer, I think the entry level TotalDAC's are closer to my preference, the Mola Mola has a similar presentation and I probably prefer that, the WaveDream etc etc.

Does anyone know if the power tubes in Atlantic TRP-3 need to be matched?

Try a search for “why match tubes?”
There's nothing showing in this thread under that, and searching wider on the site is irrelevant to Atlantic.

Ever heard of Google?
Ever heard of civility?

What's with the snarky attitude? Of course I've Googled it.

The point, as I covered in my previous post, is that the information isn't relevant to Atlantic.

Matching rectifiers in my amp, for example, isn't necessary, and a lot of people will tell you that matching power tubes in something like Atlantic is. So I'm canvassing further opinion.

And having searched through What's Best Forum for Atlantic-specific info and still found no definitive answers, I asked here.

Sometimes people, myself occasionally too, overlook that an online search would have answered their question, or at least answered it to the degree that would have led to a more informed or refined follow up question and perhaps discussion. In this case, I did do the suggested search and found just about all of the answers that I, once a TRP owner, would have been looking for, at least for starts. Nothing snarky about suggesting that. Just trying to enhance what comes across my email box.

Yeah the only reason google searches work is because people ask questions in forums like this one. So maybe if you answer their question, people will find it through their google search. Do I need to explain further? If it’s still confusing, maybe try google.

Apologies if I was mistaken, but I’ve been assuming that you were aware that a question about matched tubes, including power tubes, might not be unique to the Atlantic. My mistake.

If you think telling someone 'ever heard of Google' isn't snark then you don't know what the word means. The point about snark is how you communicate to someone. There's absolutely nothing benevolent about your tone.

What you're doing is worse than that, though. You say you know the answer but instead of leaving that information here, you choose instead to chastise me for lowering the quality of messages you're being notified about.

I thought we were members of specific boards to actually help one another. Whatever was I thinking.

sigh...to explain this AGAIN...I've done rudimentary searches and I understand that power tube matching is preferential. But Atlantic and Lampi in particular has unique construction/topologies that a lot of internet answers don't account for. For example, almost no one would tell you that removing a rectifier during playback is a safe thing to do, yet Lampi says in the Atlantic manual that it is safe to do.

I'm not asking here because I cannot be bothered searching further, I'm looking for clarification regarding specificity to Atlantic's topology.

You said yourself you found all the answers 'at least for starts'. That's my point. I have starter knowledge already. I'm now looking for something conclusive regarding Atlantic.

Why I'm even bothering continuing this at this point, I have no idea. Guess I'll look elsewhere lest I lower the tone of your damn inbox.

Wow- this is becoming a sad state. @walterboss- I’ll send you a dm and try to get you what you need that way. Everybody else- go ahead and return to what you were doing.

I’ve just spent a week reading from page 1 and it is sad to see this last part. I didn’t expect to that kind of response, but I’m not surprised.

Tbh, after posting here last year and getting very minimal responses, I didn’t feel welcomed at all. Maybe because a gen1 Big7 owner is not in the same league as all Pacific/Horizon owners here? 🤷🏽‍♂️ idk, so I never bothered to ask or post here since.

Luckily there are other groups here that are genuinely nice and willing to help no matter what level of equipment/gears one owns.

To my experience they're not. I had five Lampizator DACs (Level 7, GG, Pacific, Horizon and now H360) and recent Lampi stuff sounds much better. I've enjoyed Big7 that I had for a loan (this was some 8 years ago), but to my ears this was profiled close to the Golden Gate. Pacific and both Horizons are different animals altogether, as if Lampizator folks learned something big during the Pacific era. That 'something' carried over to Horizons and got amplified, if that makes sense.

I don't think this thread gets much action overall because Lampis are more rare in terms of ownership. Generally I've found this thread to be helpful, but you'll see a lot more helpful info on the what's best forum.
