2a3 / 45 is my next tube amp and it will be in Ferrari red.
Indeed I would like a matching one for my Airmid! Well when I beat this cancer and take care of the medical, I will indulge in the meantime. But I am beyond thrilled with this red beauty, All tungsol and national union of her! A beautiful wonderous delightful amplifier from the the genius of LOrdGwyn! It is a bit prettier with the GEC L63's but my latest set of Natti's sounds even better!

But but Bcowen is Danny Devito.
Hey UT, I have a dumb question that you might know the answer to...Can 6bx7s be used in a basic GOTL with only two power sockets, and if so, are there any restrictions as to which rectifiers can be used with that config?

You can. I am not sure what you mean by a basic GOTL but with the 6 power sockets GOTL that we had, I've tried 2, 4 and 6 x 6bx7. Difference is in power delivery. Not sure about restrictions on rectifiers because my previous GOTL use ss hexfred rectifier. I think you should be able to use GZ34.

@gibosi should be able to answer that ! He has a basic GOTL.

A tube rectifier GOTL with only 2 power sockets. I used to use a 6 pack of 6bx7s in my GOTL, but mine as you know had 6 power tube sockets

Yes, sometimes I use two per socket and sometimes three per socket. In both cases, a standard 5U4G can be used.

for example, I have a GOTL which has sockets for only 2 power output tubes, 1 input gain tube, and 1 rectifier tube - could I use two 6bx7 for the two output sockets? -- I have @Zachik awesome GOTL tube compatibilty spreadsheet but it's based off the 6 output socket + 3 input socket model (rather than the 2 + 1 I have). I assume folks with my more limited tube socket version could only use a subset of those tubes

LoL! Hahaha! Too funny Monster!
Matt and I go way back. I lost count how many times he has typed "no more amps for me", and yet here we are again!

Thanks Gibosi. So you're using an adapter in each power socket that accomodates 2-3 6bx7 per side? How's the hum factor?

Yes you can use two 6bx7 for the two output sockets ie one 6bx7 per socket. Or you can buy an adapter that will allow you to use 2x6bx7 per socket for extra grunt.

Or in the case of gibosi, you can buy an adapter to use 3x6bx7 per socket. 😀
