Maybe not news anymore but, as title says kX Audio driver for OS X (Leopard and Tiger) being released Aug 12. Latest Alpha 1.0b3 features

* 16-bit and 24-bit playback on most 10k1/10k2 cards
* supports up to 8 speakers (configure them in OS X 'Audio and MIDI' panel)
* should support SPDIF and headphones outputs, if applicable
* supports external modules (LiveDrive)
* supports hardware volume control and mute

I don't have any need for this driver myself, but am sure there are others out there...
