My brother has senn mx300s that I've listened to, they sound awful, just awful. However some of the koss line like the ksc-75s have been compared to entry level grados, so I'd go with those.

My vote = KSC75 Order them from J/R music world for ~$20.

I had the mx300, and it wasn't very rock oriented.

I just got the ksc75s and mx500s. They are definitely in the same league, but the koss have a larger soundstage and are super comfy. Go for the koss, they are absolutely awesome for those types of music.
