*disclaimer: I'm quite the newbie to the audiophile scene

I'm thinking about getting a pair of closed headphones and I'm able to get these certain ones cheap of a friend (not local, so I can't listen in person!).

What would you pick if you had the option of these three? and how come?

Any info or experience with any of these cans will be greatly appreciated.

Hmm, I haven't seen the MV1 brought up in a while.

Skylab has a review/comparison of the MV1 and K81. I suggest you read it if you haven't.

I do not know Koss, but I can grant ATH M-50 to be a very very good choice over AKG, far better than AKG in this price range and in the closed type (consider also that AT has more know-how in closed-back headphones building)...

P.S. do not know how Koss sound, but know that they weight 400 grams over M-50's 280g (and I personally found them extremely comfortable)

^ This review cools down quite a bit. If it's a sound that you like, then good for you. I've never heard it, so I can't pass any judgement on the can itself, but go ahead and try it. Koss has a 30 Day money back guarantee, so that's a viable option.

Well, I just picked up a new pair on ebay for $90 shipped, so...no.

Coming from AKG271s, I found them very detailed right out of the box. Bright, nice sounding and good isolation. They don't seem to improve much with "heavy" amplification (Little Dot I+ on high gain for some reason) vs. out of a portable or Nuforce Icon Mobile out of my laptop.

great cans that you cam move around with. Don't pay $130 for used, though.n

Ahh, but shipping to australia = $130 total.

.

Just got the winning bid of $160 (AU, $124 US) on a set fairly local to me

. (RRP for AU$325).

First set of closed cans (besides brothers $20 sonys).

AND, I might have a chance to pick up the akg's and koss for around $45 (US) each.

hah, wish me luck.
Still have

Which seller did you use, and how did you score that price? Also, straight or coiled cable? (Taking an informal poll, can't decide which one.)

Considering the cost of shipping, then I would say sounds like a good buy.

nationwideproaudio on ebay, but there are a bunch around that price range. Just "make an offer." I think retail headphone sales are soft right now...

I own the AKG K81DJ, but don't have them right now, and the AT M50. Since I can't really AB both of them, I can't really give good detail in sound, but I like the M50's more. They feel more comfortable, bigger ear cups, better built, and give me more of a "I'm rocking out" sound compared to the AKG's.

I'd get the Koss if they're $45. The K81DJs tend to sell for less used.
