KMixer bypass

Hey Holden!

Thanks very much for helping!

So, I checked the motherboard, and I'm 100% sure the onboard audio card is off. Although there are no jumpers, I ran AIDA32 and it couldn't find any onboard audio card, so I guess that can give some certainty.

In the audio control panel, all I can see is the DAC, and it has all those enhancements disabled.
I also followed the tutorials you sent me.

What I get is the same as always with my HiFiMan EF2a: volume is still controlable through Windows.
Interesting enough, I tried connecting another DAC. This actually is Phillips stereo with USB input.
With the Phillips running, it bypassed the Windows volume control!

Do you think the problem is with the HiFiMan? Does the PCM2702 supports bypassing through WASAPI?
BTW, I made sure that all the settings were the same with both the Phillips and the HiFiMan.

Thanks again!!
Stefano

Hello Stefano

Looks very much like the HiFiman is the problem. Just a couple of questions.

Did the Philips give an improved performance?

I looked at a HiFiman from the back and it seems that you have two input options - CD and USB. The CD input from your PC is obviously going to be RCA plugs (single 1/8" from the PC to double RCA at the HiFIman interface?) but you'd not be using this but the USB connection instead. I wonder if the CD/USB switch on the front might be an issue. Whatever, it sounds like you need to get the amp either looked at or get a replacement. Based on what I've read the latter might be a better option.

Let us know how this works out

Man, you must really hate the convenience of volume control.

Try this: set the volume to 100% and forget about it. Odds are that there's no audible benefit whether or not kmixer's involved. That is unless you eventually do figure out how to disable Windows volume control, in which case the elation you feel at all of those hours of frustration will be vindicated in an illusory eargasm of glory known only to gods.

Hey there!

Again, thanks a lot holden and heatfan for all the help!
I'm sorry it took me so long to get back here.

Hehe, yeah I do think that would be true anedote, but I was really interesting in at least trying out the bit perfect.

So it turns out the problem was indeed on the HifiMan!

Meanwhile, I got my Maverick D1 and the volume control is pretty much useless with it!
Also, I tried my Fiio E7+E9 combo that I use at the office and it bypassed the windows volume control too.

THANKS a lot guys!
Cheers!
Stefano

Hello Stefano - glad to have been of help to you. It was only my own issues with a similar situation that gave me the knowledge to be able to make suggestions. This is the beauty of forums like this where people are happy to share their experiences and help the rest of us. Those advising us may only be a step ahead (I know I was) but all knowledge is valuable once collected.

Enjoy the bit perfect!
