I wanted a small radio to put on my desk at work, to catch news and weather. When I first went looking around, I found out that only clock radios were small enough for what I needed. The reception from these units were universally terrible. I gave up on the radio idea until yesterday, when I ran across the Henry Kloss Model One Table Radio at Circuit City. Though pricey, the sound quality from this mono radio, was much better then anything its size I have heard. The reception was amazing. I am tempted to say that it does a better job in this regard then the Magnum Dynalab tuner I have at home. It is a very nice looking radio and as simple as can be. The model two has another speaker unit, so it plays in stereo and has a sub-woofer you can buy seperately for it. For more information:

Do a Head-Fi search on Tivoli, kenneth. There's a lot of info about them here. These radios are very highly regarded and are a bargain at their price. I currently own three...

I agree with RickG. The Tivoli/Kloss radio I've heard - the Model One, which is a strictly monophonic radio priced around $100, has a sound quality that will embarrass most portable boom-boxes at their higher price.
