I know this is over a year old... but I just got the Klipsch Image One II and I'm gonna try to use alternative pads on them tomorrow.

This is a few months old but...any luck on modding the earpads? Curious to hear some thoughts on it. Looking to try on my Image One II's myself.

I am thinking about buying the Image One IIs. Do you recommend them? I am looking for on the ear, reliability, comfort, and light weight headphones.

If you can find a store with them, I would recommend you visit and take the Image One's for a personal test. Brookstones in my area (Los Angeles) has them and that's where I got started. Nice design and light weight. I only tested them for five minutes and fell in love! The five minutes is where I went wrong, though.
1. The headphones are a bit on the tight side for my head, so I have to stretch them out a little. They are snug though...so it's a win-lose. I think it was on Woot where someone described them as good earmuffs! (So true)
2. The sound isolation is wonderful. When I am listening to them at medium-to-high volume and in a quiet room, it's still relatively difficult for others to hear the music unless they intently listen (and medium-to-high is actually pretty loud already through my iPod).
3. The earpads are comfortable...for a half hour. After that, my ears get a bit uncomfortably warm so I end up pulling them off for a few minutes. I've seen some testimonies about how people are using them for hours on end without taking them off. To best figure it out for yourself, I would recommend you visit a store with your iPod and use the headphones for about 20-to-30 minutes. See if any uncomfortability begins to set in. You can also try purchasing them from an authorized dealer that will let you return them within 30 days no matter what (I usually e-mail the dealers and verify that they'll accept the returns regardless of whether anything's wrong with it or not). FYI--this is why i'm curious to try different foam pads.
4. Regarding sound...I finally understand what people meant when they described the quality as "muddy". While the sound is nice and the bass can be a feel-good thumping, it certainly sounds like the higher frequencies are somewhat muffled. In switching between iTunes, iPod, and Spotify for music, i've had to learn to use the equalizers in order to get more realistic sound and clarity on the vocals, electric guitars, piano, and keyboard sounds (basically anything but the bass and drums). As much as I love to zone in on the different things done on the bass and drums, I more thoroughly enjoy the piano sounds, keyboard effects, accoustic strumming and picking, and the vocals.
I listen to quite a bit of mainstream music, ranging between rock, pop, a little bit of hip-hop and rap, techno/club music stuff, and accoustic tracks. A lot of them are live recordings, which I enjoy immensely versus studio recordings.
Last but not least, I'm also testing out the BT version. GOODNESS--it is awesome not having to worry about cables! It feels so good to run around the house without having the phone, computer, or ipod with me.
I'll be returning the wired one that I have and keeping the BT.

Thanks for the detailed post. I actually ordered them about an hour before you posted this. Wish I knew that Brookstone carried them, I would have checked them out. I went to Best Buy at lunch and they didn't have them. Guess I rolled the dice when ordering, I can always return them to Amazon. Funny how reviews vary greatly for the cans. Some praise them, while others have issues. Besides the sound, do you think the build quality is good, would they hold up in time?

Well, with care, surely it will last. If you toss it around, i'm not sure. I've just had them for a little more than a month.
In my opinion, there is this "cheap plastic" feel to it because of how loosely the cups swivel around. But the rest of it feels good. I only use them when i'm sitting at my desk doing some work, study, or playing games. Cable is flat and comes out on one side, which helps prevent tangling! I think for this use, they'll work. I also am very often in the habit of wrapping up the cables and putting them back in their nice, solid case that they come with because I do bring them around with me. So far--no tears or damages in structure or sound.
Regarding ordering from Amazon, i've seen quite a few mixed reviews so I didn't even consider buying from them. I bought the wired ones straight through the Klipsch website for $99, and it was shipped by a store that wasn't even on their Authorized Dealers list (confused the heck out of me...although the list probably isn't exclusive). I then went on Woot a few days later and, by coincidence, found their BT version for the same price--i'm like

Not sure how much you paid on Amazon, but Klipsch is selling them on their website for $99 with free shipping and 30-day money back returns. Verify who the retailer is from Amazon--Klipsch has a list of non-authorized dealers due to fakes being sold, and quite a few of those names are on Amazon selling the headphones for unbelievably low prices.

Sold by Woot and Fulfilled by Amazon. Woot is owned by Amazon, so I shouldn't have any problems with the warranty, wouldn't you think? BTW, they are $50 now.
