I for one cannot wait to hear the comparisons between the Klipsch custom 3, and the Westone 3. I'm sure everyone has read up on HeadphoneAddict's initial SQ impressions of the Westone 3 and how positive it was, and I am just hoping that the Klipsch gets in the same league. How could it not? Sounds like they are so similar in design and setup that I bet they will be almost identical to a trained ear. I cannot wait to add one of them to my collection of earphones. I would lean toward the Klipsch simply because it means spending $100 less, if it is very similar in sound.

Well, one major difference that might... make a difference... is the fact that the Westone 3 is triple-driver while the Klipsch Custom-3 is only dual-armature.

Ahhh, I don't know if I didn't read the specs close enough or what, but I didn't realize that the Klipsch was not a triple driver like the Westone 3. I guess I assumed that it was a triple driver with a name like 'Klipsch custom 3'. That would make a difference... in SQ and price. I will still look forward to the comparisons when both are on the market.

It's not necessary to use three drivers to beat three driver IEMs. The Etymotic ER4, for example, are prefered by many over the Shure E500 or Triple.fi 10 Pro.

x2 the er4's are about the only single driver iem to really stand out as offering something special sound wise that can offer improvements over dual and triple driver phones

i wonder what iem company is oem'ing these for klipsch?

I would love to hear a pair and I am sure they will sell nicely for the company along side the other Big Brand ear bud or iem products at you local Big name retailer (best buy, Circuit City). I always thought Klipsch products fit in nicely at my local Best buy right next to the Bose floor Standers. It gives people more options and that's always a good thing! esp in the market segment Klipsch is in..

My apologies Peter, just got in a hurry while typing. I realize the new Westone is just that and not a UM phone.

I should be more cognizant especially around the portable listening crowd. I realize the Custom 3's are dual balanced as opposed to the Westone 3's being 3 driver. I think where the real differnce in thesee phones will be in the x-over section but that is still to be sen/heard.

When I spoke to Westone they were hoping to have retail outlets populated before the Holidays and werwe expecting the Westone 3's to come in right around $400.00. Of course Klipsch has already posted the Custom 3's would be $299.00.

Who knows the Image may sound just like Ety 4's! Seems like the Custome 3's might be in direct line with the Shure SE420's?

Me thinks I will have to have a pair of each as one can never have to many IEM's right:-0

Best news i have heard in ages. Had to leave my Promedia 2.1 in US when college got over. Miss them sorely. It will be cheaper to ship these over than the speakers any day. Hope they meet the expectations.

I'm going to have to test out those Klipsch IEMs when they are released. They're reported to be all balanced-armature earphones, but the Klipsch Image--Micro-balanced armatures?!?!?

What's the diffrence between Balanced Armature and Micro-balanced Armatures?

Welcome to Head-Fi Amy, and sorry about your wallet!

Klipsch should think about becoming a Head-Fi sponsor. It will be great for their sales and will certainly help to get the good word about your new IEMs around the headphone community! If you have any doubt about that, just look at the users' signatures here. Total Head-Fier spending worldwide (since this site debuted) has to be in the tens of millions of dollars, if not more.

When I was at Westone on the 3rd (of Oct), I listened to the Westone 3 side by side with my SE500's and the Westone 3 were a notch above. I've read that the SE420 are also a notch above the SE500's, so it'll be interesting to see how it all pans out.
