I came across this post on engadget for killing the irritating and potentially ear damaging gsm noise which comes thru when listening to tunes with the iphone as a source. Killing your phone's GSM buzz with ferrite beads - Engadget.

Are there any better alternatives out there? I found a 2 $ radioshack clip on ferrite bead but it dint work too good on my office setup.

Nice one! is the GSM noise the high pitch whine I hear on my 160gb classic when my portable amp is sitting on top of, or next to the screen?

No, GSM is one cellular transmission standard. GSM phones, when they transmit, often inject a "BZZZZZZZZZZ-bz-bz-bz-bz-bz-bz" noise into electronic equipment (cheap computer speakers are among the worst-affected).

it sounds like... tot to rot tot torot....

Youll notice it everytime you get a text message. thats common to all cellphones. no high pitch sound though. Maybe the cellphone beeps in the US are different from ours here in the Philippines???

So I should put one from source to amp and one from amp to headphones?
