It pains me to see him go, though not as painful as watching him play for a team who has the worst gm in the business.

2. The Timerwolves sans Kevin Garnett

First Randy now KG, I suppose Johan Santana and Torii Hunter are just waiting for their Red Sox offers, especially considering what Big Papi (neither big or papi when playing here) has done since relocating.

I hope KG turns out to be as big a success as Big Papi has, the man deserves a ring

Well who has had synergy with the wolves players?
Its hard to synergize with the likes of Ricky Davis and Mark Blount who could really care less about winning, and after those two its a bunch of washed up veterans and some rookies who know little of the NBA game.

I agree it's better to truly rebuild the team from the ground(trade KG) rather than trying to compete(keep KG) as there is no way McChale would have built another winning team. If we kept KG it would put pressure on the franchise to win immediately and slow the rebuilding process. Jefferson, Foye, Brewer 2 draft picks and some cap space next year for Free agents is a pretty good start for the new look T'Wolves

KG played really well with Cassell and Sprewell and I think Pierce and Allen are better than those two, though MN had Role players like Hoiberg and Sczerbiak while the Celtics have... ... ...well not a lot left. I look forward to seeing how the Celtics turn out.

You can really trace this all back to the Joe Smith debacle. That penalty handcuffed them from infusing the team with young talent (lost 5 first round picks) and forced them to keep adding mercenary players (Cassell, Spree, Bricky, etc) that basically give you 1-2 good years and then become clubhouse cancers. There are only so much bubblegum and paperclips you can apply to keep a team afloat around a superstar, they ran out and in the end, made the (almost) right move. I say almost because 1) they probably could have gotten a lot more for him a couple years ago and 2) they were initially offered Jefferson AND the #5 pick. Nice going McHale!

Anyway, if I were a Minn fan, I'd still be happy. I think this team has a great young nucleus in place. This young Minn team, IMO, is more interesting than the KG + 11 scrubs team they used to have. You knew what you were going to get last year- KG busting his hiney all over the court to see the effort wasted by garbage players. This upcoming year is exciting with all the new and young talent in Minn!

Boston will be a beast in the east, I like how they all fit together because all 3 players don't have to dominate the ball to be effective. Pierce probably needs the ball the most, Allen is great coming off screens, and KG doesn't even need to score to make an impact. Boston had to do something after the Allen deal; Pierce + Allen would have made them a playoff team but they wouldn't have been a contender. They were stuck between rebuilding and contending, they had to choose between the 2 and did, the worst thing they could have done was do nothing.

Nice deal for both teams I think, although they could have and should have done better.

Anyway, Garnett will get a standing ovation when he returns to MN. Expect most Twolves fans to be Celtic fans come playoff time.

I agree with what you wrote. The Garnett trade is a statement by Boston of their intention to go all the way in the coming years.

As a Raptors fan, I'm not all that happy about this trade. Bloody Garnett should have stayed in Western Conference. BAH>

Eastern Conference champs, maybe. But you forget that the Eastern Conference champ last year was about the 9th-best team in basketball, just behind the Lakers and just ahead of the Clippers. I don't think the Celtics will be able to get past the Suns, Mavs, or Spurs anytime soon.

YES!!! The return of the Celtics to the playoffs, and able to contend well into the playoffs where any good team can win! The addition of KG, his energy and skills as well as Allen with the now veteran Pierce will be an awesome display of the triangle offense not really seen since the days of Mchale, Bird and Johnson! As far as Defense goes, they can each play adequately enough to win if the offense generates 100+ point games, which the spread floor should allow, as well as being more fun for them and to watch!!!

As a former player here (on the club level), and now as a spectator and long time Celtics fan I'm looking forward with enthusiasm to this season with the Celtics new starting roster!

The Bulls were pretty good at running the triangle offense too, maybe you meant not seen in Boston since Bird, McHale, & DJ. Allen and Pierce are hardly defensive stalwarts, KG is the only one of the 3 that is capable of shut down defense. But I do agree they'll be hard to stop offensively so they'll be able to offset the lack of defense at the 2 & 3 positions.

I still don't see Boston winning a title; they have no bench. They hardly have 2 players to put out there with KG, Pierce and Allen.

You don't have much to worry about, Bosh is only 24 (and his supporting cast is similar in age) so in 3 years the wheels will be falling off the Boston trio and Bosh & Co. will be entering or in their prime.

Yes, I did mean to say, "an awesome display of the triangle offense not really seen "IN BOSTON" since the days of Mchale, Bird and Johnson"! Also, I did mean to write Parish (the Chief),as the third of the big three. One hell of an endurable athlete and a solid performer who also developed in Boston to become quite the scorer, and was a very high percentage free throw maker most importantly able to stay out of foul trouble with a high number of blocks. Dennis Johnson was an experienced ball handler and defensive specialist who also had above average point production again with a high free throw average too... And that's what this team will be lacking, as you point out, and I agree, a fourth player of that caliber!

As I said, I'm enthused and perhaps that does cloud rational judgment as to the comparison to past Celtics teams on this yet to jell, newly added threesome, lots of questions to be asked for them to answer throughout the season. As well as the role players which are an important part of any team to go deep into the playoffs. That also presupposes their ability at their ages to endure the common nagging injurys throughout the long season, and hopefully not sustain any terrific sidelining injurys.

Its going to be tough for sure, but I'm equally sure it will be a hell of allot easier and fun to watch with attainable hopes, than the recent Celtics teams, that much is certain!!!

I really like this trade.
Now I want to see four things happen...in order.
1. Kevin McHale quit and leave the Wolves completely
2. Glen Taylor sells the team
3. KG wins a championship
4. The T-wolves get a Mark Cuban type owner that is actually passionate about his team and rebuild it into a contender....in first class style.

I like this trade so much, I'm actually thinking about buying a KG Celtics jersey! I'm totally not the type to wear those things...althought I do have red hair and pale skin, so the Celtics would be quite fitting

I love KG and this was a great move. My Sis lives in the area and has always been a huge Celts fan. She was really, really pumped by this. I know this will instantly make the Celts a better team but I worry about the overall depth of that team. Who is coming off the bench and when? I know KG understands that this is best shot at a title and his emotions show that he really hated leaving the Timberwolves and the fans there. He seemed to be one of those players who loved the city and fans but had problems with the team. That's too bad.. Minn deserves a good basketball team and KG deserves to win. I would have just loved to see the Wolves win with KG. Such are things

Congrats and good luck to all the Celts fans out there. This makes the upcoming season all the more interesting and fun. Celts and Bulls 4 times here next season. I doubt I'll miss any of those.
