The Kenwood DPC-81 Portable CD player started in 1991.

I own 8 Kenwood DPC-551 Circa. 1995. My impression of them great! The battery power is poor only about 2 hours, at the max.

The audio quality is punchy and strong, especially when you select the live option, it gives a bright but clear and detailed sound stage that surpasses anything sold since the D-E905.

Skip protection is a good 3 seconds, you *can* comfortably walk with it.

But, I want to know if anybody has the DPC-81? I am desperately searching to own one.

Thank you!

By the way I use MDR-SA1000 headphones, not the best, but closer to reference than others.

I don't think you can buy a portable CD player anywhere in the world today that has the audio and build quality of the DPC-81, D25S, D555, D-E905, or D-777.

Portable CD players with optical output, 16X over sampling, Toslink, and line out?

Come on, most people can't even tell the difference between MP3 and CD and don't even remember the fact that a LP record can break crystal!
