I was researching a pair of bookshelf type nearfield monitors and was pretty set on the KEF LS50's, until I saw that KEF has more than 50% fake positive reviews posted for these on Amazon.

This is the sort of behavior that is usually seen from shady businesses, fly-by-night operations, and mass produced garbage from large companies that produce cheap products. It's certainly not expected to see this kind of behavior from a high end audio producer.

Is this really a legit business and/or product or what? Why do they have an "F" rating for trustworthy product reviews?

I need to follow this up, it is the responsible thing to do considering what I discovered.

So, there are TWO fakespot URLs that point to these exact same speakers on Amazon:

https://www.fakespot.com/product/kef-ls50-mini-monitor-high-gloss-piano-black-pair
https://www.fakespot.com/product/ke...ack-pair-bcf897c1-66ad-4a13-8342-f93809c059c0

Both of these pages link to the SAME product on Amazon, but each showed a different incorrerct number of reviews. The TOP link, the one I posted in the original post, had an "F" grade, while the bottom link had a "B" grade.

I e-mailed FakeSpot about this, and they replied with the following:

Thank you for your email and for reporting this to us.

We had our development team investigate the issue and have looked into why there is a discrepancy between these analyses, even though seemingly they are for the same product:

  • Amazon has different identification numbers, ASINs, that switch as you change attributes within a page.
  • Attributes can be the color, wattage, etc. You are also in certain cases able to filter reviews by these specific attributes.
  • We have determined that the analysis that resulted in an F grade had an abnormality in the retrieved review data due to Amazon changing aspects of their review system for the selected product attribute.
  • This was a recent change by Amazon however, this situation is also rare specifically related to this product.

Our developers have issued an update for this bug and we hope that we can regain your trust.

Now, both URLs show the correct number of Amazon reviews (120), and the top URL (https://www.fakespot.com/product/kef-ls50-mini-monitor-high-gloss-piano-black-pair) no longer reports an "F", it reports a "B". And the bottom URL (https://www.fakespot.com/product/ke...ack-pair-bcf897c1-66ad-4a13-8342-f93809c059c0) reports an "A" instead of a "B" now.

:p
