The AKG family of K7** has also been notoriously difficult to drive without the proper amplification. A portable would be handicapping the audio string from the outset.
I don't always have access to a plugin as I am on the go a lot. And could you elaborate on why they aren't portable? They do tend to slip around my head when im on my longboard (don't hurt me!) is that what you mean? Also hearing things around while trying to listen to the music can be difficult but i usually am making music in quiet places
I understand. I like to use my headphones in different rooms around the house. So not "portable" for public use, but portable in the sense that I'm away from my headphone amp.
My experience with the K612 Pro, which is apparently somewhat similarly difficult to drive, is that they really do like a lot of juice. I use the FiiO E12 with my headphones when using it with my DAP around the house. It does a pretty good job at moderate listening volumes.
