Hi Everyone,
I am new to this forum and I am learning a lot from everyone. My headphone setup consists of the following:

Headphones: AKG K701 and AKG 340 (stock)

Amp: ASL MG Head DT tube

Source: Rega Apollo CD, Rega P3

My questions are:

1. Is the K701 a low or high impedence phone? The specs indicate 62 ohms

2. The ASL has a high and low impedence setting which should I use for the 701? I tried both and to my ears this phone sounds better on the high imped. setting. However, like in other things , my ears could be decieving me.

3. Can I drive my K340's using the ASL MG DT or should use another Amp? Using the ASL the 701 blows the 340 away. I also have an Audio Research D200 I use for my Speaker setup. Sould I be using that amp?

I am new to headphones so again I really appreciate your help.

Thanks,
Scooterboy.

1. As you said, they are 62 ohms, it's up to you to consider it high or low impedance.

2. Goes with what ever that sounds good to YOU. I'm not familiar with the amp, but "high impedance" likely means "high gain". K701 although has doesn't have a very high impedance, it has a low sensitivity.

3. I guess the only way to know whether you'd like it is to try it out.
