I've already mentioned somewhere on the forum that I'm sewing pleather cushions for my K501. The shape and dimensions are close to those of K701 pads. Currenty they are ready enough to make some audition (I still have to use insulating tape to keep them in place).

Isolation.
Much more. Definitely a darker and deeper kind of silence with new pads.

Bass.
Just like I expected and even better. Deep, powerful and punchy. Overdone in bass-heavy records. Perfect on some others.

Soundstage.
Wider, more separation. Stock earpads simply weren't big enough for my ears.

Tonal balance.
Less warm, more neutral. Probably the lack of cloth between ears and drivers helps bringing a bit highs in.

The only flaw by now is that new cushions made the headband somewhat small for my head. In all other aspects new earpads are a big leap forward.

I was going to place some pictures when I get done. Do you want to see K501 wrapped with insulating tape?

I wish I could have tried that on the k701.

You can do a set of cushions yourself. The project already took about two weeks. Could have taken less if I hadn't much work redone because of errors in design.
I believe, such mod wouldn't do much to K701.
