For those of you who have done this, can you answer me a few questions please:
  • In general, did it sound realistic and integrate well with the over all sound?
  • Were you using your subs speaker terminals or low level RCA inputs?
  • What sub did you use and how much did it cost?
  • What would you do differently if you could?
  • What did you NOT like about the setup?
  • How big was your room?
  • Where did you place the sub relative to your listening position?
  • How big was your sub (8", etc.) and how did it fire?
  • Did you have two or just one?

Thanx guys.

1. The room placement and layout of your room is huge for this one. (for a larger room)When I found a decent spot: yes, it integrated well. In my dorm room, however, front facing 2-3 inches from the wall on any wall/corner works great.
2. RCA input
3. Mirage Omni S8 = ~$200
4. Money has just became tight, I would have gotten a better sub if I could
5. The fact that my setup begs for a reciever(something I refuse to buy), I'm not comfortable using a Y adapter to power K1000s + 1 Speaker + 1 Sub. Currently I'm running the sub and speaker from my ipod and starting each song the same time as my main rig.
Other thing is, the K1000s act like a noise canceller against the subwoofer. You have to blast the sub somewhat high to actually hear enough of a difference.
6. Dorm room, small
7. 2-3 feet away in front of me. I'm facing back of sub.
8. 8'' sub, fired well... but again, the K1000s drown out the bass, If I had the funds I would really consider a high end 12'' sub. The sub starts to distort when I pump up the sub volume to my liking.
9. 1 sub

1. No. The sub falls behind. However, if you let bookshelf speakers play at a lower level along with subwoofer, the integration becomes much better. I listen this way everyday.
2. Speaker level
3. Two units of Athena P2s ($375 ea)
4. As I said add speakers too and the result becomes amazing. See this thread: http://www6.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=140967
6. 13*9 ft
