Ive Read so many reviews about K-501's, A-900's,and Grado 225's with no true winner, and i cannot tell which one is prefered by most it seems like tough competition, i listen to alot of rock and some rap, so ide like a bright can with decent bass, I am looking for opinions currently i have Mdr-7506's.

Funny thing is that i really liked the 501s for rock. Just brilliant detail, decent impact, VERY balanced but most of all it has the most crisp highs ive ever heard on a can. I enjoyed the highs more than the stax 2020!!! (not that it is better than the stax but it sounds more exiting in the highs) The bass would be fine unless you are used to senns. Ive heard evry prestige grado BUT the 225. i find the 125 is too bright. I think the 325i nicely balanced (in comparison) and id imagine that the 225s would sound between the two. I have no clue about the a900.

The SR225 is the rock 'phone, the K501 is the classical/jazz 'phone, and the A900 is the jack-of-all-trades. Since you listen to rap stay away from the K501.. the bass is feeble.

I've had experience with SR80s and A500s. I don't listen to rock, but I did listen to some rap every now and then with these 2 headphones. The A500s were clearly superior to me for rap; the SR80s simply didn't have enough bass quantity/punch and lacked any decent atmosphere because all the sound is crammed inside your head (SR80 soundstage = virtually non-existent; you need some degree of air/soundstage for rap, if you ask me...).

I've owned the A900 and the SR225 (never heard the K501), but I agree with the above.

And based on what you wrote, I think you might prefer the SR225.
