Went to my local audio special as i wanted to try out the HD 598's but they wouldnt open a box for me because theyre not popular enough but said i could try the 558's that were out
 
fair enough i guess..
 
 
Currently i have Panasonic RP-HTX7's and the HD558's left my rather underwhelmed.. should i have tried them with an amp? was with my iPhone 4 and it just felt alot less 'passionate' than my panasonics, are the HD 598's particularly differant?
 
I listen to very complex melody-type rock music (modern alternative to prog-rock i guess) so i thought the detail id heard the 598's offer would be a great upgrade..

I recently got the hd 558s, and I while I do not have other high end headphones to compare them to, after letting them burn in overnight for a few days I heard an improvement in rock music. I use a xonar dg amp.
