Hi,

I just bought a HD595 headphone. I'm a little bit disapointed because of its lack of bass. I can't return it because it's already open :frowning2:
I've been struggling myself for a few days to decide whether I should buy another headphone with better bass or an amp with bass boost to drive the hd595. Yesterday, I came across this thread http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/216921/doge-6210-another-great-headphone-amp and some other posts that said the Doge 6210 improves the bass. I placed the order after that and I'm waiting for it to come. Hopefully, it can swing my hd595 :)

HI,
I have a modded Doge 6210 mkII and it can drive effortlessy all my headphones with very good sonic results.
My current rig is doge with hifiman he-5le... wow. In the past I owned the hd600 and grado 225 and 325.

Yes, it's about an upgrade. The chinese assembly is a little approssimative, but you can live happy...without upgraditis.
It's a very good amp, you'll be satisfied with a simple tube roll.

No heating problems here. The big problem of the previous version was the incompatibily with the old el84 tubes which is completely solved. If the bass isn't enough with this amp I recommend you an hd650.

I just received it today :)
I pair it with the Ibasso D2+ BOA as DAC. I just notice a very small difference with the hd595 though :frowning2:
This is my first tube amp :) I can feel the tubes' heat when I put my hand close to them (about 2cm distance). Is it normal?

yes, it's a tube amp, it's normal.
Your headphones are easy to drive and not requires an external amp. If you upgrade your source and headphones the differences will become more evident.

FWIW and in my inexperienced opinion, the HD595 sounded a little soft or mushy to my ears. They are the wrong cans if you seek a lot of bass impact.

Hi, I just sold my hd595 and bought the hd650 :) because the hd595 sounds really boring to me.
What I'm feeling now is the hd650 beats the hd595 in every aspect: SQ, build quality. I love it, and it's worth the money.
I tested the hd650 with my Ibasso D2+ DAC/Amp and the Doge 6210 separately. I just notice a little difference between them though. It's not just like night and day. The Doge 6210 has slightly better bass than the D2+. That's why I'm thinking about going to the next step. It is searching for better tubes for the Doge. But I need some advice because I'm kinda new to this world :)

I replaced all 4 tubes. Look at Reflektor 6p14p-EV for the El84 and Tungsol gold pin for the 12ax7 (Ecc83) or Sovtek 12ax7 LPS. These are good current production tubes and don't cost very much. Be sure  that the tubes are balanced  triode to triode, matched and low noise for the ecc83. For the el84 only matched.

On my Doge there are NOS tubes from '60 that are pretty expensive. If you want I can sell you something. PM me if you are interested.  Where do you live?
