It is powered by a wallwart, but if you disconnect the wallwart, it can still function from the power from the firewire port.

It hasn't actually arrived yet, so I can't post impressions yet, unfortunately. I'll bump the thread when it gets here.

It arrived today, but the mailroom where I'm supposed to pick it up closed before I was able to pick it up.

I will definitely bump the thread as soon as I've formed an opinion on the card, and gotten something written down. (or I might just create another thread if this one gets lost in the endless abyss of threads past page 1).
