My Aria is usually at about 10 o'clock too. Only a very few recordings need to get up to 12 o'clock or so.

Moderation is the key.

Moderation? What are you going to do when you need that extra push over the cliff? You need to put it up to eleven! One louder!

On a more serious note, is there a term to describe when all of the detail is recognized at a lower volume level? I do not believe it is all due to gain. My older amp seemed to have all of the musical detail at a lower volume than my current amp. I find that I keep dialing up the volume knob to hear things that I previously could hear at a lower volume.
