I have just bought Senn HD280 Pro, which replaced Beyer DT931, and am not too happy about it. I thought I needed closed (PC nearby and wife, you know, noisy stuff).

Very quiet, and I loved that part. But a little move or subtle touch to the cable gives a huge noise to my ears, almost amplified. It is annoying. Can't concentrate on and enjoy the music. Sound is OK. Not so often used anyway.

I don't have much experience in the HP world, and wonder whether I should give up closed and go back to open type to live with some environmental background noises. Any closed cans out there which don't have the character above?

By the way, if I go back to the open type, are these "good" buy?

Thanks much in advance.

put an alligator clip at the "Y" and clip it to your shirt.

the problem is microsonic, i believe. i never noticed it on the dt931 or the dt831 (until just now - yeah it's there). all headphone cables do it; some are worse than others (cd3000, ad10, etc). i can't take cables which have silk type coverings on the cables, though. that really drives me nuts.

That sounds odd, I'm listening to 280's right now and yes there is a minimal amount of noise when the cable is moved around but nothing like what your describing.
