Monica, I agree, turn them up too loud and they are the same as loudspeakers cranked too loud. Fortunately I can hear everything at a moderate volume. The 501's sound bland and homogenized thru the X-Cans IMO. The RA-1 provides proper transparency, clarity and dynamics. The 501 really tells you a lot about your gear and cables, not just the music.

I couldn't agree more about the Sugden. If it sounds half as good as it looks it must be wonderful! Interesting observation about the Maggies. There are a lot of similarities!
