I'm certainly going to have to come back to this thread later, but what about these folks?

Boredoms - AMAZING! I'm in crazy love with the Boredoms
Melt Banana - I dig them myself, aka me, I only have a couple of their albums, but they put on a pretty rocking live show
Jighead - I have never heard them mentioned anywhere, but they are a full out rock band in the Guitar Wolf vein
Guitar Wolf - Their cover of Summertime Blues is perhaps the greatest thing ever
Acid Mothers Temple - Far too much output, but there are some gems in there "In C" being one
Otomo Yoshihide - He's got a pretty deep catalog, still figuring him out.

That's my short list, I'm a big fan of Japanese rock, though clearly leaning more towards the exploratory/jazz end.
