I forgot about those. I've never seen one but have read they are a larger nozzle type. They could work. I wonder if there is an olive in that type and size.

Okay people, this mod is well worth the minimal effort. I tried out some comply T500s this morning and have been using them all day so far. They are staying well put and, more than that, they are isolating very well. The isolation issue with the UE canalphones of this shape and type is solved with this mod.

My guesstimation of the amount of isolation as compared to the reference, Etymotic with tri-flanges, is about 85% to 95% of the Etys. That's how well this mod is sealing these Triples with Comply T500s. They are a bit tight but definitely comfortable, especially after acclimating to the seal.

I highly recommend everyone with seal and isolation issues with UE canalphones do this mod.

I am glad this mod worked with the triple.fi too

I was also thinking about another mod you could do with it: taking Shure olives, removing the inner tube and gluing the olives to the heat shrink directly. That would be an easy mod for IEMs like q-JAYS, ER6 and so on.

Hm... Where could I get a hold of this stuff? Hardware store? Seems like a very promising mod!

Also Does the size of the Tubing Shrink matter? for example, 3/16 or 1/4

Yes, it will matter. The size in the pictures is what you want, 3/8 I believe it is. There's a possibility that different brands of heat shrink will settle to a slightly different shrunken size, though, so experimentation should be first.

Actually Shure sleeves and foams won't fit the Triples with this mod unless they, too, are modded.

The only sleeves I've used with this mod are the Zen Aurvana silicone sleeves and they do fit tightly to pulling the extension off sometimes whenever you try to remove the sleeve from the extension.

I'm currently trying out some Comply T500s and they fit the extension nozzle tightly as well.

Since these extensions are made from heat shrink tubing, a person could try to heat a lip at the end of the extension nozzle if it were needed. But that would increase the diameter of the nozzle to where it might interfere with the ear canal. What is best is to have the extension nozzle the smallest size possible without constricting the sound output.

so i can still use the usual larger diameter tips? cause the pics make it look like the heatshrink is much smaller than the original diameter. was really hoping to fit some shure sleves on it. any idea about if the blak foamies fit better?

The diameter of the small end of the extension is just almost exactly the diameter of the Triple's nozzle. It will fit any OEM sleeve or foam and will also fit some smaller diameter sleeves and foams like that of the Zen Aurvana and likely the Shure E100/200 series, but would require stretching to fit.

I doubt the smaller series Shure sleeves and foams would ever stretch far enough to fit onto the extension nozzle.

It is possible to make an extension that will produce a smaller small end. Simply pick the next size down heat shrink. Keeping the large end of the extension the same with the 7/32 drill, heating the heat shrink will produce a smaller nozzle end. I suppose, since this current heat shrink is 3/8, the next size down would be 5/16.

The only problem with going smaller, you might constrict the sound output.

I'm currently using a couple medium cored olives to great success. I didn't bother gluing them onto the Jabada extensions because I don't have any glue. But the olives are doing very well unglued on the extensions. The isolation isn't as good as with the Complys, but that's because the olives aren't as deep as the Complys were. Nevertheless, they are sufficiently isolating and are even more comfortable. They are also just as secure fitting as the Complys, no feeling like they will fall out.

Pinching and scraping with the thumbnail, is how I do it, till it's almost free and then pull it away without tearing the foam too badly.

The foam will be flat like a nickel while you are pinching it and look destroyed but it will return to itself.

Thanks Lewis and jabada for this mod.

I got my triples yesterday and was sure I would have to send them back they were SO uncomfortable.

With the LL (lewis link) jabada mod/ flip/flop and comply T 500's they seem to be pretty comfortable these 1st 10 min. of listening.

The sound and isolation is great too.

Although the greatest comfort for me is when I use small olives so I will still experiment.

I am seriously considering custom tips for the triples. Either silicone or acrylic
if they don't compromise the SQ.

BTW , the SQ of the trips is fantastic, very happy with that aspect.
