I've been to Headroom's site early this morning, and looked at the headphone list there.
While the SR-60 still rates 4.5 heads (out of 5) on Headroom's Value Rating scale, none of the other Grados rate more than 3.5 heads. To be specific, the value ratings dropped as follows:
SR-80: 4 heads before, 3 heads now.
SR-125: 4 heads before, 2.5 heads now.
SR-225: 4.5 heads before, 3.5 heads now.
SR-325: 4 heads before, 2.5 heads now.
RS-2: 4.5 heads before, 3.5 heads now.
RS-1: 5 heads before, 2.5 heads now.
What made Headroom drop those Grado value ratings? Is it that they now find the entire line fatiguing? Or is it that the listening tastes of Tyll and Co. had changed? (I know, Tyll doesn't care much for the higher Grados now.) Or perhaps they now favor super-inefficient headphones (ones that require a huge, monster-sized amp just to produce any sound at all whatsoever) over any efficient ones, especially at a given price point?
Please share your thoughts - and disagreements.
