I don't like itunes, to slow. I buy ALL my music on CD, the main reason is that i only have a CD player, i will invest in a pure i-20 in the future and an ipod classic. I personaly prefer cd (vinyl more) over any MP3/AAC downloads,i can't really say why, just like it more

I buy all my music on cd&vinyl it's also more personal then a download.. I guess buying it digitaly would be cheaper, for your setup aswell. What i mean is you can get a great DAC for around ~$300, , a good cd-player wil cost you a lot more. Mine cost €999

My Sony bluray player sounds as good as my old $1000 SACD player. There's no sound quality reason to buy expensive CD players any more.

If the iTunes store went lossless, that would be a massive bandwidth hit for little or no sound quality imprrovement.

My first Mac computer was a Lisa. It cost $5000+ new, but I had to get creative to figure out how it could remain useful. I threw a little rug over it and made it a stair to help my dog jump up on the couch.

The Lisa went to the dump, I'm afraid. My IIci made a better step so it replaced the Lisa.

Artifacting is artifacting in a good job of mastering or a bad one. Lousy sounding music isn't necessarily easier to compress.
