Well I know wav files do not support tagging, but I noticed yesterday when I imported them to my iTunes library, I was able to edit the information, such as Artist, Title, Album, etc. However, if I remove the song from the library and then import it again, all the information is lost. Is there any way for iTunes to permanently associate the tags with the wav file?

It would be handy if iTunes can, since currently I keep my wav music separate from mp3's. That way, when I move files around, I won't have to change the directory for each song, rather just re-import. Just curious. If not, I'll probably just convert to ALAC.

Like you said, since .wav does not support tagging there is no way to keep the information with the files as there is no place to put the information.
You can tag with all the other formats iTunes has to offer.

I use AIFF which is the other uncompressed format. Tags work perfect. Converting waves to AIFFs is simple either in iTunes or another app.

Do you happen to rip your CD's directly to AIFF? Is there some way to rip to AIFF using EAC for convenience later on?

Also, how do you convert to AIFF in iTunes? I can't seem to find it.

Nevermind, I figured out how to convert to AIFF. The tagging works very well. During my reorganization of music today, the tags were never lost. Thanks cconmaker, I did not know of AIFF before.

The WAVE container don't support meta tags. iTunes will allow you to add information (looking like tagging) to the playlist file, which it will store in the Library file. This information will be lost if you delete the file from the Library

Use AIFF instead, or even better Apple Lossless
