iTunes seems to have developed a "cracking sound" problem.
At first it plays the files ok, but after a few songs the cracking in the songs appears everywhere.

Does not happen with any other audio problem so it seems to be only iTunes.
Never happened before either.
Laptop is 850 P3 with 256 Ram.

Anyone else experience this, any solutions?

try turning off:

equaliser
sound check
sound enhancer
crossfade

and see if the problem stops.

have you got the volume setting for the songs too much to the right of 0%?

That tended to happen to me on my old laptop if I was trying to do too much at once and it started choking.

Rite. What other apps are you using simultaneously. Run iTunes by itself and see whether this happens.

iTunes isnt lightweight by an means, and it could be, as DLP said, just your computer struggling to cope with all its processing tasks.

It happens when I fastforward a few songs rapidly on party shuffle.
The thing is, it never happened on any previous iTunes versions, is the 4.8 heavier than before?
