...I wonder if you have to use the charging stand or you can just use an AC adapter. Does any one know how it is on the d-ej1000???

On the D-EJ955 you can just use the AC adapter instead of the stand and I'd be willing to bet its the same for the others.

They list an AC adapter under accessories, don't say if it's included or optional.

Uh, it definently comes with an AC adapter.
First of all, it comes with a rechargeable battery. Second, it is the high end sony discman...
Third of all, those accessories come with it unless otherwise stated:

Well now, excuse me ! Feel better now ? I was just trying to address linnem's question regarding charging outside of the cradle. A lot of devices that charge in a cradle have an additional (optional) adapter (think travel charger)
