The great American violinist Isaac Stern has died at the age of 81 in a New York Hospital on Saturday.

And it wasn't too long ago that I watched his documentary "From Mozart to Mao" on PBS. Very good film that anyone studying classical music and/or string instruments should watch.

this is really said indeed. Issac Stern has done a lot for the classical music world. both in and outside performances.

This is so sad.. He was SUCH a great violinist, especially when he was in his younger days..

I'm currently listening to his performance of the Dvorak Concerto, almost in tears.
I remember he was my very favourite violinist when I was a little kid.. I listened to his Humoresque by Dvorak oh so many times. I've always admired the man from since then.

The world has lost a truly excellent musician.

My favorite classical CD of all time is the SACD of Stern playing The Four Seasons. It also includes some amazing Vivaldi violin concerti.
