Is the quality the same as using windows media player to play cds compared to foobar and flac or am i missing something?

No, because there is no error checking so a guaranteed perfect copy every time (the main advantage of computer as source) will not be there, plus there will be noise from the cd drive etc going on, and the computer might run slower.
