Is this unusual wear damage on my HD555s?

They're probably 3 years old, and I use them daily, but I don't mistreat them, this is just wear and tear.

I'd describe that as kind of thrashed, myself. I have a five year old pair that's nowhere near that beat up.

Obviously, we're living different lives.

Most of it's pretty cosmetic, really. I'd suggest getting some heat shrink or other reinforcement over the wires at the entry point, though.

How the hell have you even managed that? I've worn mine every day for the past year and they still look like new. Learn to look after your stuff.

FYI wear and tear doesnt include playing hockey using these as a helmet.

Well i wouldn't call that normal wear and tear but i haven't kept any headphones for that long. How do you store your headphones??

Though you aren't smashing them into the ground on purpose, using a pair of headphones, on a tall latter when painting your house in white, isn't the greatest treatment, atleast when something goes wrong.
