please dont laugh as i am new to all this audio stuff. I am planning to buy a m-audio transit to use with my ibook.

Here's what I want to do, I plan on connecting an external dvd player thru the transit's "stereo analog/optical digital input". is this possible? Will I be able to listen to the dvd's audio if i do this? basically it will be home dvd player-->USB transit (optical/analog)-->headphones. I hope someone can help me with this, thanks.

Don't know, I have the M-audio Sonica, the predecessor of the Transit that has no input.
How about downloading the Trasit use manual -- go to this link:

Possible, but unconventional. Your iBook has an internal DVD-ROM drive doesn't it? Why not just buy a cheap headphone amp and connect your external DVD player's output directly to it?
