A long time ago I had a chance to try out a bunch of Sennheisers, and I really, really liked the HD 590s.  Alas I was working with a fixed budget and had to settle on a lesser model, which actually didn't turn out bad at all.

 Now I'm wondering if there's anything out there right now that has a similar sound.
 
Of course my tastes may have changed slightly, but I figure it still might be worth looking into as I've been thinking of getting a new pair of headphones.  Just haven't decided what yet.  Any suggestions?

Actually, what do people think of the 590 in general? I know it's a pretty old (relatively) set, but wondering if it has any fans.

Jeez, that's an old fogy 'phone, get with the times man.  Just kidding.

  From what I've read on the HD590, I think Sennheiser's HD598 might be right up your alley.  It may not be as bright as the HD590, but it's smoother sounding, with a terrific midrange and sound stage performance.
