Is there a headphone that can match the HD650 for mids and vocals?

They are just so lush, warm, liquid and intimate. I've heard a lot of headphones but non have the vocals the 650 do. What have you heard that can match them on this area?

HE400's mids and vocals definitely don't compete with the HD650. The HE500's definitely do, on the other hand. Whether the HE500's mids and vocals are better or not is a subject for debate. Personally, I'm on the fence.

Other headphones that beat the 650's mids and vocals (in my opinion)... HD800 (with the right DAC), Audeze LCD2 Rev. 2 and LCD3.

Agreed

Another vote against the HE400. I just didn't like its mids at all. I've had both the HD650 and the HE500 (currently have the HE500 again), and honestly, they're more different than one being superior to the other. The HD650 had more forward mids, but the HE500's mids have slightly better timbre. I find that where the HE500 improves on the HD650 isn't really the mids, but the bass, detail, and treble.

But I do still think the AD2000 bests the HD650 for female vocals. Male vocals not so much, but the weird accentuation of the midrange in the AD2000 works beautifully with female vocals.

Koss Pro DJ100 /TB with M50 pads and a really good amp.
Total cost for the headphone + M50 pads is around $70.
Feel free to proclaim i'm wrong

HD-650 and my Q701 don't really do anything better unless you're comparing the open vs closed thing.

Oh and I too agree that the ATH-AD2000 (Audio Technica) is better for female vocals than the HD-650. Too bad the pads on it go flat and it's hard to find.

I didn't find any of the headphones mentioned apart from the LCD2 too be close. I've not heard the HE500 though.

The 650 just have such magical mids and vocals to my ears, I know it's preference but nothing has come close.

They are soooo haunting and I love that about them, not one hint of grain or dryness just liquid smooth.

I own the Shure 1540 and even though Shure are a Mic company the vocals sound dry, pushed back and not anywhere near. AD2000 again dry, bright!

The LCD2 had really similar mids and vocals but even they sounded dry when compared but are usually liquid smooth.

They just sing in your ear with such emotion and for the price to SQ ratio they are the best in the world IMO.

I even found the HD800 to not do vocals this good, too thin and cold as opposed to lush thick chocolate of the 650.

Just my opinion spouse it depends what you like in a phone.

The HD800 really shines with the human voice....male or female...just incredible.....of course even if you buy used it is still 3 times the price of a used HD650.....

I've heard some refer to the Sony R10 as being the true king of mids.

W3000ANV
JVC DX1000
L3000
HP1000
K1000

Don't go too bad either, depending on what you truly desire in your mids

Have you heard the new one? (ad2000x) How does it compare to the old?

Lately I hear most about the mids of the he500 and the Pandora Hope VI.

Anyone heard the Beyerdynamic dt250 250 ohm? I've heard it has the best and most balanced mids in the Beyer line up.

I, too, prefer the vocals on HE500 but it weighs too much so try the new Hifimans.
