It just randomly occurred to me as I was thinking about Latin and the debate between the English 'qu' pronunciation and the French/Spanish one, and which Latin used. I figured it was more like the French/Spanish one, but then it occurred to me, 'but in English we just figure we've already got 'k' or 'c' for that.' Then it occurred to me how rarely I see the letter 'k' used in French, which is my second language. Does anyone know why 'k' is so uncommon en francais? Is it a more recent addition to the alphabet, and hence the academie francaise is hesitant to condone its popular usage?
