For the past week or so, I've had the feeling as if there is a big pocket of air in my chest that isn't moving at all. Only way to get rid of it is to take a big yawn.

Also, my right ear has been "popping" (like when you change altitudes in a plane) VERY often. I'm causing it by moving some muscle in my jaw, kinda like swallowing a certain way. And I just can't stop doing it! Its like when your ear has that pressure built up on it feel you have to have it pop, and as a result I involunartily end up doing this process (as outlined above) that makes it pop.

I have a feeling these two are related..

Any ideas?

I'm not a doctor, but the "big pocket of air in chest" reminds me of pneumothorax. My roommate's girlfriend had it without any prior stimulus. It can be a genetic condition. I assume you've already researched on WebMD and the like?

If you do suspect pneumothorax, go seek a doctor quickly. It is a serious condition.

This sounds like something you might want to check out. Could be a pneumothorax, could be something else. Or could be nothing at all, hard to tell by these symptoms alone. An x-ray will find out.

This is most probably just caused by the jaw bone joint, causing differences of pressure in your middle ear. You should just stop doing that "thing" with your jaw, or stop paying attention to it. If there is no pain, no secretion from the ear and no fever, then there should be nothing to worry about.

These two conditions almost certainly have nothing to do with each other.

Ever seen Alien? You should get it checked out before the problem erupts into something more serious (and ugly)

But seriously go get that checked out

*hint. See a pulmonary specialist. Have the doctor do a sputum test and blood test along with a chest Xray. Unless you have fabulous insurance coverage, skip any recommendations for a CT scan until you have the blood and sputum test first.

Otherwise, ask a real expert.

Why are you asking for medical advice on a headphone forum? See a doctor.

Really I don't think there is a problem with my lungs, I run often and I haven't noticed myself tiring quickly or anything. It FEELS like its just a result of what I'm doing with my jaw. But, I haven't had that feeling in my lungs since I posted.

The doc had me on minocycline for a month or two, which I recently learned is ototoxic (toxic to the ears). Gave me some tinnitus in the right ear (but it is gone now that I have stopped taking it, thankfully.) and I think this pressure is just a result of that.

If this gets worse or doesn't subside I'll see the doc, but I feel as if I am fine and was overreacting.

i had that same feeling when i took my medication (accutane?) for acne... i guess the pills i swallowed were too big for my throat or something? and if i didnt drink enough water to completely wash it down or eat something small... the feeling would linger for a couple hours just as u described. i dont remember if i had that ear popping problem tho.

The next time I see someone post a question that is absolutely ridiculous to ask on here because we don't have the knowledge or skills to help let alone answer it, I think my head will explode. I don't care even if there IS a doctor on here, he needs to go to a doctor In Real Life. It's like Moss in the IT Crowd when there's a fire in the office and he EMAILS someone for help. *fumes*
